General Questions

Will the libraries at Rutgers and UMDNJ be combined?

Yes, the George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences (Smith) in Newark and Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Library in New Brunswick will become part of the Rutgers University Libraries system on July 1, 2013.
 

Will any library locations be closing?

No, none of the Rutgers or UMDNJ library locations will close after the merger. The Smith and RWJ Libraries will become part of the Rutgers University Libraries system.
 

Will I be able to visit any library location?

Yes, any user can visit any of the Rutgers University Libraries locations in New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark or Camden including the Smith and RWJ Libraries. Bring your university ID. View the hours for each of the libraries.
 

What borrowing and access privileges will I have?

Will the library’s website change?

The Rutgers University Libraries website will change on June 26, 2013. The new site will be a complete redesign and will include links to Smith and RWJ Libraries.
 

Library Catalogs

What items will be included in the Rutgers Libraries Catalog?

As of June 24 all items in the Rutgers University Libraries, including the Smith and RWJ Libraries will be included in the .

 

Books

Will I be able to order books from other library locations?

Yes, all Smith and RWJ Libraries books will be included in the .  Starting July 1 you can place a request to have any available item delivered to your library location of choice.
 

Where will I be able to return my books?

You may return your books to any Rutgers University Libraries location including the Smith and RWJ Libraries.
 

Journal Articles

Will I be able to order journal articles from the Smith or RWJ Libraries collections?

Yes, we will scan articles from journals located in any library location. Log on to Interlibrary Loan and Article Delivery and complete the Article Request form to place your request.
 

Electronic Resources (eJournals/Databases)

Will I have access to all of the Smith and RWJ Libraries’ electronic journals?

Because of the restrictions outlined in our current electronic journal licenses, as of July 1, you will only have access to the electronic journals currently licensed by Rutgers. UMDNJ-licensed electronic journals are being renegotiated to add all Rutgers users. Access to all resources is anticipated no later than Jan 1, 2014. You can use Interlibrary Loan and Article Delivery to request a PDF file of UMDNJ-licensed content beginning on Jul 1, 2013.
 

Will I have access to all of the Smith and RWJ Libraries’ online databases?

Because of the restrictions outlined in our current online database licenses, as of July 1, you will only have access to the databases currently licensed by Rutgers. UMDNJ-licensed online databases are being renegotiated to add all Rutgers users. Access to all resources is anticipated no later than Jan 1, 2014.
 

I am a member of a joint Rutgers/UMDNJ program. Will I still have access to resources from both library systems?

As a member of a joint program, you are eligible to access all Rutgers- and UMDNJ-licensed electronic journals and online databases. On July 1, your current access permissions should continue uninterrupted.
 

Wireless & Remote Access

Will I be able to log in to the wireless networks at all Rutgers locations (including former UMDNJ sites) on July 1?

Yes, anyone with a NetID and password will be able to log in to the Rutgers wireless networks (RUWireless and RUWireless Secure). UMD CORE Accounts will become NetID accounts by July 1. Former UMDNJ locations will broadcast the Rutgers wireless networks as well as their legacy wireless networks starting July 1. I have a CORE account. How will I get a Rutgers NetID?

UMDNJ CORE accounts are automatically being converted to NetIDs. You may have to activate your NetID at https://netid.rutgers.edu/activateNetid.htm. For more information about NetID conversion and activation, please visit the OIT FAQ.

 

How will I log in for remote access to library resources?

You will still use your Rutgers NetID username and password to log in for remote access. Your NetID is the same username and password you use for your email. When you log in remotely, you will have access to all Rutgers-licensed electronic journals and resources. Smith and RWJ Libraries-licensed content will be added as licenses are renegotiated. This process is expected to be complete by January 1, 2014 at which time remote access will allow you to use any of our electronic resources.
 

Interlibrary Loan

Will there be any changes to interlibrary loan services?

No, there will be no changes in ILL service.
 

Library Classes

Will I be able to take librarian-led classes offered at any library location?

Yes, you can take classes offered at any Rutgers University Libraries location.
 

EndNote

Will I have access to download a free copy of EndNote?

EndNote: Legacy UMDNJ users will still have access to EndNote through the Smith and RWJ Libraries. More information is available at http://libraries.umdnj.edu/EndNote/. Legacy Rutgers users are not included in the EndNote license.

RefWorks: All users with a NetID have access to RefWorks through a Rutgers-wide site license.
